Member Profile: Sarah Dharshi
(She/Her)
Sarah Dharshi (she/her) is a strategic communicator and community advocate dedicated to equity, civic engagement, and grassroots change. At NAIT, she leads communications for initiatives that advance inclusion and belonging, supporting portfolios like the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and the Nisohkamâtotân Centre.
Outside of NAIT, Sarah consults on equity strategies for local organizations, taking a community-driven approach to make social justice more accessible and actionable. As former Content Strategist to Mayor Amarjeet Sohi, she helped strengthen relationships between City Hall and underrepresented communities through storytelling and relationship-building.
Sarah has played key roles on several successful political campaigns, championing inclusive platforms and mobilizing diverse communities. She is especially passionate about supporting women, gender-diverse people, and racialized individuals in shaping public policy and stepping into leadership.
Her work spans Edmonton’s arts, hospitality, and advocacy scenes — from founding a dance company for BIPOC and gender-diverse performers, to developing safe space policies that has reshaped inclusion in local nightlife. She uses social media, public speaking, and storytelling to inspire equity-focused dialogue and civic participation at every opportunity possible.
As a queer, neurodivergent, second-generation South Asian immigrant, Sarah brings lived experience, strategic insight, deep community ties, and passion to every space she enters, including her role on the City of Edmonton’s Women’s Advocacy Voice of Edmonton (WAVE) Committee.
She believes in the power of community to lead change, and in building systems where those at the margins are not only heard, but empowered to lead.
